Catalog mode walkthrough

Learn how catalog mode changes product naming and editing between a partner and its vendor. By the end, you can recognize who owns a product name and why a vendor may see logistics fields locked.

Before you begin

You need access to the web dashboard and a partner/vendor organization relationship. A partner controls the effective CATALOG_MODE setting; a vendor inherits it when the partner setting is true.

Walkthrough

  1. Open the partner organization's catalog setting and enable catalog mode. The vendor inherits the effective setting; it does not independently override the partner's true setting.
  2. Create a STOCK product with presentation, content (at least 1), unit, category, and model. The server generates the name from those values and any optional color, size, or flavor.
  3. Open that product as a partner. Change a name component and save. The dashboard asks for confirmation; after saving, the server recalculates the name.
  4. Open it as the vendor. Existing-product logistics fields are read-only while catalog mode is on. Other permitted product fields remain subject to the ordinary product-edit permission.
  5. Stock the product, then observe the additional vendor lock on identity/logistics fields listed in the field matrix.

What to expect

A name stays unchanged when no name component changed. A client-supplied name does not override the server-generated STOCK name in catalog mode. See name generation for exact fields and formula.
